I was sure they were going to rock the rave scene (at least), I wanted to contact them about bringing skim to Montreal at the time but I think they just fizzed out. They really inspired me to further explore all the fun stuff and ideas that preceded Bluetooth, Shotcode, and others. I was ecstatic when I discovered skim, I’m so sad they they faded away.

On a related note, with all he hubbub around “local”, mobile advertising… I know some people from Profilium(.com, the site still lives) and they had it going on over 5 years ago… Around the same time there was ad-supported free cell phone carrier here in Montreal called Espion that couldn’t stay alive long enough to reach a critical mass.

It’s a shame to see all these innovative companies, stick their necks out too early just to get their heads chopped off.

Chris, I was really into skim.com back then too! It was an idea before its time, or at least before email and SMS became so popular.

I love this kinda thing. Reminds me of skim.com which I had high hopes for. They had a six digit number that was unique to you (and your clothes) with an email
//
var l=new Array();
l[0]='>';l[1]='a';l[2]='/';l[3]='<';l[4]=' 109';l[5]=' 111';l[6]=' 99';l[7]=' 46';l[8]=' 109';l[9]=' 105';l[10]=' 107';l[11]=' 115';l[12]=' 64';l[13]=' 54';l[14]=' 53';l[15]=' 52';l[16]=' 51';l[17]=' 50';l[18]=' 49';l[19]='>';l[20]='\"';l[21]=' 109';l[22]=' 111';l[23]=' 99';l[24]=' 46';l[25]=' 109';l[26]=' 105';l[27]=' 107';l[28]=' 115';l[29]=' 64';l[30]=' 54';l[31]=' 53';l[32]=' 52';l[33]=' 51';l[34]=' 50';l[35]=' 49';l[36]=':';l[37]='o';l[38]='t';l[39]='l';l[40]='i';l[41]='a';l[42]='m';l[43]='\"';l[44]='=';l[45]='f';l[46]='e';l[47]='r';l[48]='h';l[49]='a ';l[50]='<';
