110409 Twitter Lists

I took a screenshot of the Twitter lists following me at the moment.  Undoubtedly, the “listed” number will be used as another metric of social influence, but that’s not what I find intriguing.  It’s the self-curated/created nature of lists that I like.  It’s been insightful, humbling and amusing to see what lists I’m added to.  It’s also a great way to discover new users to follow. Every self-curated list creates another taxonomy to the wide world of Twitter.  I’ve got to find some time to make more lists of my own. Full screenshot below.

  1. You can add people that you don’t follow to lists. I’ve started one for spam followers.

This serves two purposes IMHO. Firstly, it instantly registers what you think of a spammer who follows you, secondly, it might go someway to offsetting the lists that spammers create to follow each other just to get a high list count.

  2. @Abizer – why don’t you just report them as spam? This notifies Twitter that their account is spam, and blocks them from following you. Just click the action menu to “report as spam”.

  3. @Emily. I do both. :)

  4. I agree about the new taxonomy. It will be great to explore your friends lists and the ones they are listed in. I think this may be another great way for self-classification of the people-web.
