CC put their <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/support\/videos\">new video<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.revver.com\">Revver<\/a>, the online video site with revenue-sharing.  Every time someone watches the video through to the ad, CC gets paid.  As Lawrence Lessig writes in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lessig.org\/blog\/archives\/003590.shtml\">his blog post<\/a>, &#8220;So if you&#8217;d like a simple (and cheap) way to help CC, please use the email form to send the videos page to your 10,000 best friends. Ask them to send it to their 10,000 best friends. And them, to their 15,000 best friends. And soon we&#8217;ll be finished with the fundraising for the year&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00bb\u00a0Watch all of the <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/support\/videos\">CC videos here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>CC is also running a photo contest on Flickr starting now and going until December 6th.  At the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.flickr.com\/flickrblog\/2006\/11\/creative_common.html\">FlickrBlog<\/a>, Stewart Butterfield mentions that there are over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/creativecommons\">22,000,000 CC photos<\/a> on Flickr.  All of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/emilychang\/\">my photos on Flickr<\/a> are CC.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Creative Commons launched the first <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/support\/contest\">CC Swag Photo Contest<\/a> on <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.flickr.com\/flickrblog\/2006\/11\/creative_common.html\">Flickr<\/a> to promote our <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/support\/\">Annual Fundraising Campaign<\/a>. The photo must be of CC Swag (t-shirts, buttons, stickers, etc. &#8211; all available from the <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/support\/store\">Support the Commons store<\/a>) and the winners will have their photos used on Creative Commons&#8217; informational postcards, which will be distributed internationally to promote CC and the winning photographers. Winners will receive 100 copies of the postcard with their photo. The winners will also be able to choose a <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/about\/people\">Creative Commons board member<\/a> to record a personalized outgoing voicemail announcement &#8211; that&#8217;s right, your friends can be greeted by <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/about\/people\">Lawrence Lessig<\/a> every time they call you!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u00bb\u00a0Visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/support\/contest\">contest page<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hacking the Conference<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-516\" title=\"mashery-cocktail\" src=\"http:\/\/emilychang.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/mashery-cocktail.jpg\" alt=\"mashery-cocktail\" width=\"460\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emilychang.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/mashery-cocktail.jpg 460w, https:\/\/emilychang.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/mashery-cocktail-255x161.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The other bit of news is just a great example of guerilla marketing and the do-it-yourself approach that is vital and indicative of web 2.0.   In Dan Fost&#8217;s post at the SF Chronicle, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/blogs\/sfgate\/detail?blogid=19&amp;entry_id=10700\">Hacking the Web 2.0 Conference<\/a>, he describes one company&#8217;s smart marketing move.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mashery.com\">Mashery<\/a> makes software to manage APIs for applications and rather than demo at the Summit or pay to attend, they came up with their own approach that proved just as (more?) effective&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;CEO Oren Michels and investor Josh Kopelman cleverly booked the Palace&#8217;s Sonoma conference room as soon as the conference dates were announced.  &#8220;This is a guerilla launch,&#8221; Michels said. &#8220;We&#8217;re not part of the conference.&#8221;  Instead, he had a room right at the center of the action, for &#8220;a fraction of the cost of a sponsorship.&#8221;  The room became a de facto party spot&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Great DIY thinking!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few bits of other news caught my eye this last week amid the flurry of activity here in San Francisco around the Web 2.0 Summit.
