{"id":582,"date":"2007-09-10T11:25:50","date_gmt":"2007-09-10T06:25:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emilychang.com\/blog\/?p=582"},"modified":"2009-06-14T13:50:38","modified_gmt":"2009-06-14T08:50:38","slug":"picocool-cool-content-from-real-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emilychang.com\/blog\/2007\/09\/picocool-cool-content-from-real-people\/","title":{"rendered":"PicoCool: Cool Content from Real People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After spending the last two years as <a href=\"http:\/\/emilychang.com\/go\/ehub\">eHub<\/a>, obsessively profiling and trying out almost every web application that&#8217;s come out, I&#8217;ve decided to try something different from a new perspective.<\/p>\n<p>I just launched <a href=\"http:\/\/picocool.com\/\">PicoCool<\/a>, a site that&#8217;s dedicated to bringing you tiny and obscure content from the world of peer media, social networks and subcultures.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-583\" title=\"picocool-helloworld\" src=\"http:\/\/emilychang.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/picocool-helloworld.png\" alt=\"picocool-helloworld\" width=\"500\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emilychang.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/picocool-helloworld.png 500w, https:\/\/emilychang.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/picocool-helloworld-255x158.png 255w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a shift away from focusing on the technology and the people behind these technologies to focusing on the <em>content<\/em> and news created by people.  <a href=\"http:\/\/picocool.com\/\">PicoCool<\/a> is the first site to focus on the <em>content<\/em> being created by people through participatory media and niche communities.  It&#8217;s not about who&#8217;s popular or who has the most points, it&#8217;s about the things we create, the ideas we have, and the creative or daily minutiae that makes us human.<\/p>\n<p>On a personal level, I think this site will be a lot of fun.  These are the things I notice while browsing through peer content and the things I bookmark.  It combines my lifelong interests: underground trends, subcultures, innovations, art, human experiences, products, technology, communication, philosophies, digital living, the obscure and the tiny.<\/p>\n<p>Somewhere in the undiscovered and the mundane lives real brilliance. Who are they? What&#8217;s their life like?
